The Village

The mountain village of Eressos is a place of special interest for its unique architecture and natural beauty. Located 95 kilometers west of Mytilene, the capital of Lesvos, it is considered the birthplace of the lyric poet Sappho (7th century BC) and the philosophers Theophrastus and Fania (4th century BC).

In the center of the village is the stone-built square “Platanos”, a name derived from the centuries-old plane tree there, the municipal building and the 1928 Theophrastio Primary School, the post office, various groceries, traditional cafes and restaurants.

The fertile plain of Eresos is also famous for its hiking trails between the orchards, vineyards and olive trees.
